Calypso. The Queen of the Nymphs.

I was always amazed by old antique Greek and Roman myths. The stories are often so thrilling and incomparable with any other type of prose. This time I got inspired by the Queen of Nymphs, Calypso which appears in Homers Odyssey.
Sometimes it’s really strange to realize that you really can get inspired by anything while creating an editorial.
So while Rafia and I were staying in Athens we made a short trip to one of the islands around the capitol of Greece. And as we got there I knew that I wanted to do a Nymph-like photo shoot.
I decided to wear a black long dress with white details which I found last year while shopping the H&M AW Studio Collection. The silky and shiny fabric is very thin but as we were by the sea and it wasn’t as cold as expected (end of March) I wore only a bikini underneath.
Fun fact: I’m not quite sure if I’m ever going to do a real swimwear post (not feeling quite well and sure while doing stuff like this) but never say never, right?
So this might be the only bikini shots that you ever see of me. Haha.

The next thing that you might have realized is how simple I tried to keep this look. Despite the dress you only can see a black pair of cat-eye sunglasses and a bunch of wild flowers which I found by the sea.
Keeping it simple is also a great key to express more than with many extraordinary pieces. It leaves more room for a great setting and backdrop to develop itself.
For example I kind of remind myself of a young widow in these images (can you tell I’m always looking for the drama?! #dramaqueen). Or as I already mentioned of a water nymph.
But maybe I’m also just crazy while I’m conjecturing everything.
By the way: I’m currently planning my looks for Iceland (only two weeks to go – I’m so excited!) and I’m also thinking about doing a lot of editorial shoots there.
How do you like dramatic images like these?
Are you just like me and start planning months before a certain event what you are going to do and wear?
And last but not least: Where do you get your inspirations from? I’d really love to know!
Hope you are having a great week ahead of you.
Lots of love,

Wow what a beautiful editorial dear! I love the outfit and all the emotions and drama you captured. I never plan outfits in advance. I usually just grab all of the clothes and create a styling at the set. And a blogpost after seeing the shots. As it goes to the inspiration, I let the place do it’s magic. Although I normally just get this idea to my mind that won’t let me sleep until I write it down and put it into a motion.
